Publication policy and ethics

The BUMJ policies and ethics follow the guidelines and policies published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) as open access and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), as revised in 2013.

1-Author’s responsibilities:

  • It is anticipated that the authors will submit original studies.
  • All those designated as authors should meet all four criteria for authorship, and all who meet the four criteria should be identified as authors. Those who do not meet all four criteria should be acknowledged

The criteria include:

1-Notable contributions to the work's conception or design, as well as to the gathering, processing, and interpretation of data.

2- Significant assistance with the work's drafting or critical revision for key intellectual components.

3- Final clearance of the version to be released

4- Consent to take responsibility for every part of the job

  • Authors are required to properly and totally reference any studies they use or incorporate into their writing.
  • All works submitted for publication should disclose any relationships or circumstances that might give rise to a conflict of interest.
  • The authors should be prepared to provide the editorial board with the rawdata if needed.
  • The authors should possess a document attesting to their rights to use the data, their possession of the required permits for the study or analysis, or their acquisition of the experimental subjects' agreement.
  • If authors discover an error with their published work, early appearance, or evaluation work, they have to assist the editor in alerting and correcting.
  • Authors are not permitted to apply to more than one journal with the same work.
  • Authors should follow the provided submission guidelines

2-Responsibilities of the editorial board

  • Providing the needed information to readers and authors in a clear and precise manner.
  • Continuous improvement of the journal quality
  • Supporting freedom of thought and intellectual property rights
  • An editorial member's submission of a manuscript will be handled in the same way as any other paper, with the member and the reviewers being blind to one another during the process.

3-Responsibilities of the reviewers

  • The process of the evaluation is based on the double-blind review method, but if the reviewer knows the author, he /she should not contact the authors directly.
  • The evaluation report should be submitted to the editorial manager
  • The reviewers should assess the paper objectively and they should not allow nationality, gender, religious beliefs, political beliefs, and commercial concerns to influence their evaluation.
  • Reviewers should follow the provided instructions for reviewers
