Instructions for Authors
General Information
The SJUOB is pleased to invite all researchers in all disciplines to submit their valuable work to the SJUOB. This multi-disciplinary journal opens the door to receive manuscripts from all researchers all over the world. The journal also aims to increase the efficiency of scientific research at the University of Benghazi by encouraging the teaching staff, technicians, researchers as well as students at all stages of university education to participate in this journal
All articles submitted to the journal will undergo a blind peer review by two reviewers. Review processes will normally take up to 12 weeks. The submitted manuscripts will be reviewed by suitably qualified academics reviewers according to the discipline of the received manuscript.
To avoid delays, the submitted manuscript should be presented in compliance with the Authors’ Guidelines. The authors are asked to follow the submission requirements carefully. The manuscript will not be seen by the editor until all requirements are met.
The Editorial board is strictly against any copying or plagiarism act in any form. All manuscripts submitted for publication are checked for plagiarism using Crossref Similarity Check tool that is powered by the iThenticate software or any other originality detection service. The maximum allowed percentage of plagiarism should be less than 20%. However, plagiarism should not exceed 5% from the same reference. Manuscripts found to be plagiarized during early submission will be rejected.
Pre-Submission
The Scientific Journal of the University of Benghazi (SJUOB) is a multi-disciplinary open access journal, owned by the University of Benghazi. The SJOUB has three sections: Humanities, Science and Medicine.
Submitted manuscripts must pertain to these three domains, and be submitted solely to SJUOB, and not published or for consideration to be published elsewhere.

Before you submit your manuscript for the consideration to be published in the Scientific Journal of University of Benghazi (SJUOB), please read the following carefully:
Submission declaration and verification
By submitting an article to the SJUOB, authors indicate the following:
- The work has not been previously published elsewhere in any form or language (except in the form of an abstract, a published lecture or academic thesis).
- The manuscript is not currently under consideration for publication by another journal.
- It is a condition for manuscript submission that the authors permit paper editing for readability.
- The article's publication is approved by all authors as well as by the responsible authorities where the work was conducted.
- The accepted manuscript will not be published in any other place in the same form, in English Languages or translated into any other languages, including electronic publishing without first obtaining a written consent of the copyright holder.
Author contributions
We advise authors to submit an author statement file which outlines their individual contributions to the submitted paper using the relevant credit roles:
- Conceptualization;
- Data curation;
- Formal analysis;
- Funding acquisition;
- Investigation;
- Methodology;
- Project administration;
- Resources; Software;
- Supervision;
- Validation;
- Visualization;
- Roles/Writing - original draft;
- Writing - review & editing.
Authorship statements should be formatted with the names of authors first and followed by their credit role(s). Please use the separate “Title Page” for providing the statement.
Authorship
All authors whose names appear upon manuscript submission should have made substantial contribution to all the following authorship criteria.
- The conception of the research work and/or the acquisition, analysis and the interpretation of the data.
- Writing the article and/or revising the content critically if required
- Approval of the final manuscript to be published.
Authors should also agree to be responsible and accountable for the contents of the published research as well as agreeing on all versions of the article before submission, during revision, and the accepted final version.
Changes to authorship It is the authors’ responsibility to ensure the Corresponding Author and the correct order of authors. Any changes in the authors list such as addition, deletion or rearrangement of authors sequence after the manuscript has been submitted must be approved by all authors.
The corresponding author must inform the editor about any intended changes in authorship list by an email/letter with a written confirmation from all authors – including those to be added or removed. When the manuscript has been accepted, changes of authorship list (addition, removal, or rearrangement) are not permitted
Competing Interests
Authors - Any relationship that might influence the submitted work is considered a potential source of conflict of interest and must be declared. Authors are therefore, requested to disclose any potential interest or personnel relationship, financial or non-financial that is directly or indirectly related to the work described in the submitted manuscript. Examples of potential competing interests include, but are not limited to, Employment, Consultancies, patent or stock ownership, membership of an advisory or directory board of a company and consultancies and grants.
If authors have no conflicts of interest to declare, they must state so at submission. You can declare the conflict of interest in the separate “Title page”.
Reviewers - peer reviewers should disclose any financial or non-financial issues that would limit their ability to provide a fair review to the editor. It is recommended that they disqualify themselves from handling manuscripts as soon as they recognize a potential competing interest.
Editors – Editorial Board Members should also disclose themselves from making a decision on a manuscript if they recognize a potential financial or non-financial conflict of interest. Competing interests may include - but is not limited to – sharing the same institution or having previously published with the author(s). Where one editor or more is on the author list, they should declare this in the competing interest section at the submission. Editor should also publish a disclaimer in which it is indicated that he was not involved in the editorial review or decision of acceptance.
Editors and Reviewers should remember that a manuscript remains the author's confidential property until it is published. As a result, they are not permitted to use, cite, or discuss the content of unpublished manuscripts in any personal or professional capacity.
Submission
Authors are required to check that all the following items are fulfilled:
- The submitted manuscript has not been previously published, nor is it considered for publication in another journal.
- The manuscript has not been provided in Comments to the Editor
- The submission file is in Open Office, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
- URLs for the references should be provided where available.
- The text is single-spaced; with a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
- The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Pre-Submission Guidelines.
Make sure you submit the title page and the main article text (including tables and illustrations) in two separate files.
To submit your article, a submitting author should first register and login in the journal's online submission system and submit no more than one manuscript at a time. You can also send the submission file to the journal e-mail address: [email protected].
Post-Submission
Once your submitted manuscript is received, the Journal Editor will forward it to the appropriate Section Editor, depending on the science domain of the submitted article.
Submitted articles are checked using the plagiarism detection tool, Crossref Similarity Check that is powered by the iThenticate software. According to the plagiarism detection report, only manuscripts with 20% or less plagiarism are sent for review processes.
Two reviewers who are expert and specialized in the field will be invited to review the manuscript independently, in a specified time interval.
Each reviewer will use a structured evaluation form to objectively facilitate reaching a fair decision as to accept or reject the article.
The corresponding author will be informed by email about the reviewers' conclusions and decision.
The article may be returned to the corresponding author for revision and corrections as indicated by the reviewer(s). The corresponding author is expected to re-submit the article after making the required correction, before the deadline given by the Journal Editor.
Authors are expected to supply the journal with post publication updates (in case of narrative and systematic review articles), as a letter to editor when major development occurs in the subject or field of review.
