Pre-Submission

The Scientific Journal of the University of Benghazi (SJUOB) is a multi-disciplinary open access journal, owned by the University of Benghazi. The SJOUB has three sections: Humanities, Science and Medicine.

Submitted manuscripts must pertain to these three domains, and be submitted solely to SJUOB, and not published or for consideration to be published elsewhere.

Before you submit your manuscript for the consideration to be published in the Scientific Journal of University of Benghazi (SJUOB), please read the following carefully:

 

Submission declaration and verification

By submitting an article to the SJUOB, authors indicate the following:

  • The work has not been previously published elsewhere in any form or language (except in the form of an abstract, a published lecture or academic thesis).
  • The manuscript is not currently under consideration for publication by another journal.
  • It is a condition for manuscript submission that the authors permit paper editing for readability.
  • The article's publication is approved by all authors as well as by the responsible authorities where the work was conducted.
  • The accepted manuscript will not be published in any other place in the same form, in English Languages or translated into any other languages, including electronic publishing without first obtaining a written consent of the copyright holder.

Author contributions

We advise authors to submit an author statement file which outlines their individual contributions to the submitted paper using the relevant credit roles:

  • Conceptualization;
  • Data curation;
  • Formal analysis;
  • Funding acquisition;
  • Investigation;
  • Methodology;
  • Project administration;
  • Resources; Software;
  • Supervision;
  • Validation;
  • Visualization;
  • Roles/Writing - original draft;
  • Writing - review & editing.

 Authorship statements should be formatted with the names of authors first and followed by their credit role(s). Please use the separate “Title Page” for providing the statement.

Authorship

All authors whose names appear upon manuscript submission should have made substantial contribution to all the following authorship criteria.  

  1. The conception of the research work and/or the acquisition, analysis and the interpretation of the data.
  2. Writing the article and/or revising the content critically if required
  3. Approval of the final manuscript to be published.

Authors should also agree to be responsible and accountable for the contents of the published research as well as agreeing on all versions of the article before submission, during revision, and the accepted final version.

Changes to authorship It is the authors’ responsibility to ensure the Corresponding Author and the correct order of authors. Any changes in the authors list such as addition, deletion or rearrangement of authors sequence after the manuscript has been submitted must be approved by all authors.

The corresponding author must inform the editor about any intended changes in authorship list by an email/letter with a written confirmation from all authors – including those to be added or removed. When the manuscript has been accepted, changes of authorship list (addition, removal, or rearrangement) are not permitted

Competing Interests

Authors - Any relationship that might influence the submitted work is considered a potential source of conflict of interest and must be declared. Authors are therefore, requested to disclose any potential interest or personnel relationship, financial or non-financial that is directly or indirectly related to the work described in the submitted manuscript. Examples of potential competing interests include, but are not limited to, Employment, Consultancies, patent or stock ownership, membership of an advisory or directory board of a company and consultancies and grants.

If authors have no conflicts of interest to declare, they must state so at submission. You can declare the conflict of interest in the separate “Title page”.

Reviewers - peer reviewers should disclose any financial or non-financial issues that would limit their ability to provide a fair review to the editor. It is recommended that they disqualify themselves from handling manuscripts as soon as they recognize a potential competing interest.

Editors – Editorial Board Members should also disclose themselves from making a decision on a manuscript if they recognize a potential financial or non-financial conflict of interest. Competing interests may include - but is not limited to – sharing the same institution or having previously published with the author(s). Where one editor or more is on the author list, they should declare this in the competing interest section at the submission. Editor should also publish a disclaimer in which it is indicated that he was not involved in the editorial review or decision of acceptance.

Editors and Reviewers should remember that a manuscript remains the author's confidential property until it is published. As a result, they are not permitted to use, cite, or discuss the content of unpublished manuscripts in any personal or professional capacity.
