الهدف الرئيسي من هذه الدراسة هو تقييم الوضع الحالي للغطاء النباتي و التنوع البيولوجي في هضبة الدفنة, حيث لم تتم دراسة منطقة الدراسة المختارة نباتياً من قبل. تم إجراء مسح للنباتات في الفترة بين 2019-2022 لثلاثة مواسم نمو متتالية. بلغ العدد الإجمالي للأنواع النباتية التي تم مسحها في منطقة الدراسة 182 نوعاً، تنتمي إلى 36 عائلة نباتية مختلفة و 139 جنساً من النباتات الوعائية, تمثل 8.71% من إجمالي الأنواع و 16.46% من إجمالي الأجناس و 24.82% من إجمالي العائلات النباتية في الفلورا الليبية. تم تصنيف هذه الأنواع إلى ثلاثة مجموعات رئيسية وفق انماط النمو على النحو التالي 62 نوعاً معمراً (33.51%) و 118 نوعاً من النباتات العشبية الحولية (65.38%) و نوعان من النباتات ثنائية الحول (1.09%). و قد أظهرت النتائج أن أكثر العائلات النباتية سيادة هي العائلة المركبة متمثلة بعدد 31 نوع (17%), تليها العائلة البقولية حيث احتوت 21 نوع (12%), و العائلة القطيفية تضمنت 19 نوع (10%), و العائلة الصليبية اشتملت على 16 نوع (9%), و العائلة النجيلية حيث تمثلت في 12 نوع (7%). و قد أظهرت نتائج الدراسة بأن أكبر الاجناس هي Plantago L. و Polygonum L. حيث احتوى كل جنس على 5 أنواع نباتية. علاوة على ذلك, تم تسجيل ثلاثة عشر نوعاً من النباتات الطبية البرية. و الأهم من ذلك, تم تسجيل و تصنيف ستة أنواع متوطنة في منطقة الدراسة تمثل 7% من إجمالي أنواع النباتات المتوطنة في ليبيا. و قد خلصت هذه الدراسة إلى أن هناك تنوعاً كبيراً في الأنواع النباتية في منطقة الدراسة. و قد أوضحت هذه الدراسة بأن الرعي الجائر له أكبر تأثير على الغطاء النباتي في هضبة الدفنة. و تشير نتائج البحث الحالي إلى ضرورة وضع اقتراحات و توصيات يمكن أن تساهم في تحقيق التنمية المستدامة للغطاء النباتي الطبيعي و المحافظة على بنية المجتمع النباتي في هضبة الدفنة.
