Abstract

This paper discussed the use of traditional methods and geographic information systems in analyzing the morphometric characteristics of the Wadi Al-Noum basin, in Jabal Al-Akhdar. Morphometric analysis Building a geographical database with morphometric variables for the Wadi al-Noum basin, and this study relied on the analytical and comparative method, and used tools for analysis such as the digital elevation model, DEM and the topographic map in deriving the morphometric parameters of the wadi basin. The analysis using the digital elevation model (DEM) was more accurate than the traditional method (topographic map), the bifurcation rate in the valley basin was 45 by the modern method (DEM), and it reached 29.2 by the traditional method, and the number of river ranks for the valley basin was 4 arranged in both methods (DEM). And (topographical map), as the difference between the lowest level on the surface of the basin reached its value - 21 Between the modern method (DEM) and the traditional method (topographic map.
