Abstract

The main purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between parental stress and family adjustment of parents of children with autism. Additionally, the second purpose was to discover whether there are differences between the in level of stress and some demographic variables ( sex of parents ,age of parents, level of educational, number of family membership). A sample of (120) autistic children’s parents (60 mothers and 60 fathers) responded to: a)the parents of disabilities children stress Scale and b) the marital adjustment scale. The results showed that there is no significant relationship between parental stress and marital adjustment for autistic children’s parents. However, there was significant differences between mothers and fathers in the level of stress in favor of autistic children’s mothers who showed higher stress than father. In regard to other variables (age of parents,
level of educational, number of family membership) the findings showed that there is no significant differences between fathers and mothers’ stress in any of these demographic variables.
