IMPACT OF LINGUISTICS INTERFERENCE ON TEACHING ARABIC LANGUAGE ΤΟ ΝΟΝ-NATIVE SPEAKERS

The first language influences the learning of Arabic as a second language. This influence is primarily dependent on contextual factors, such as the classroom environment. This suggests that the first language becomes beneficial for foreign language learning when these factors work in favor of both languages. Numerous findings in the literature indicate that the first language plays a significant role in Arabic language learning. This influence can be positive or negative, depending on the level of exposure to the second language. This study employed a qualitative descriptive design to investigate the impact of the first language on the teaching and learning of Arabic as a second language from a language interference perspective. The researchers used non-participatory observations and interviews as data collection tools and qualitative content analysis as the data analysis methodology. The results indicate that learners' native language hinders their learning of Arabic as a second or foreign language and impedes their academic success. Therefore, bilingual education is strongly recommended to broaden learners' Arabic language proficiency.
