The Role of Psychological Counseling in Empowering People with Disabilities and Promoting Their Mental Health: A Qualitative Approach in Light of the Principles of Empowerment, Diversity, and Equity

Abstract

This paper highlights the vital role of psychological counseling in enhancing the mental health
of persons with disabilities and fostering social inclusion and empowerment. It addresses three
areas: first, the theoretical framework of counseling and the most relevant approaches, such as
cognitive-behavioral, humanistic and empowerment models; second, an analysis of individual,
group and family counseling programs and their impact on self-confidence and adaptive skills;
and third, a discussion of challenges in Arab contexts, including limited resources and social
stigma. The paper proposes a framework based on empowerment, diversity and equity for
inclusive practices.
