Abstract

This study aims to shed light on the most important contributions of Al-Maqdisi in the development of geographical thought, regional geography and cartography, all these will be done through knowledge of the bases that were adopted by Al-Maqdisi in the division of geographical regions. The study also concluded with the results of the most important scientific position among the scholars of his time, where he divided the world known to 14 provinces, and excelled in explaining the roads and routes, and characterization of cities, in addition the introduction of colors on the map was brilliant in drawing and explaining the natural phenomena on the maps.
