Traffic accidents in Libyan society, factors and dimensions

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the factors causing traffic accidents in Libyan society, and to know the social, economic, and health dimensions of the traffic problem, as Libya suffers from an increase in traffic accidents, which threaten the security of the individual and society, as statistics indicate the worsening of this problem, which has cast a shadow on the future development plans of society, This is due to the resulting loss of lives and money. The study concluded that Libyan society reaps the consequences of traffic accidents, including the loss of manpower and the loss of public money represented by damage to motor vehicles, the road network, etc. In addition to that, there is a segment of society that suffers from a disability that it suffered due to being exposed to a traffic accident. It made her lose her family and community role, and she became in need of social care. The study also concluded that the factors leading to traffic accidents in Libya are represented by the human element that is indifferent to the principles of driving, the type of dilapidated vehicle, the road network, and neglected and old infrastructure that does not receive regular maintenance.
