Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the management of domestic solid waste in the city of Tobruk by. The data of the study were collected by personal interviews with some officials on cleaning services in the city,  field observation, and taking pictures  of waste collection sites and the final dumpsites. Then, this data was analyzed using the descriptive method. The study showed that the waste collection process is not done with the required efficiency due to the lack of available capabilities and equipment to suit of population in the study area. The cleaning works in the city are carried out by collection waste in containers, direct loading in trucks, and to throwing sometimes in some empty places. Also, sometimes there is  no concurrence between waste taking out with  trucks passing, In addition to the absence of a continuous field follow-up of collection work. As for the final disposal of waste, it is done in a traditional way, which is throwing in an open landfill inside the city plan, then burning and filling, but, after the residents were affected and their complaints abundant, this landfill was closed and another place was set aside  about 70 km south of the city, which it is also inconsistent with environmental and health specifications.
