Abstract

The region of Gharyan witnessed the largest emigration in Libya during the period 1964-1973، about 60، 000 immigrants. Tripoli has been the most attractive area for migrants، reaching about 37% of the total number of the total of 141، 000 immigrants. Tripoli has acquired more than 80% of the total net migration from the region throughout the study period. The Net migration was not in favor of the Gharyan region during that period. The net migration rate was about -33% of the total population for the period 1964-1973، and The rate dropped to -1% for the period 1995-2006. The factors of attraction were the role of the city of Tripoli in the role of administrative، educational، industrial، commercial، urban، and the factors of expulsion were in the area of ​​Gharyan، which lack the fundamentals of economic activity، and the economic and social development projects، And the reduction of displaced migration.
The Displaced migration affected population growth. The region recorded the lowest population growth rate at the level of Libya at about -1. 7% for the period 1973-1984. It also affected the educational pyramid and the groups produced in the population pyramid in 2006. However، natural growth rates have helped restore the population balance of the region.
