Vocational qualification is the main path to entering the labor market in the archival profession fields. The accreditation of rehabilitation and training programs is an indication to their high quality which varies from one program to another and from one country to another.
This study aims to examine the nature of rehabilitation and training in the field of the archival profession which provided by universities and professional associations in order to identify the knowledge, experiences and job skills. It also aims to examine required competencies and accredited and recognized certificates to work in the field of archival profession.
The study used the descriptive approach in analyzing the nature of the professional competencies required to work in this field. It also described the theoretical knowledge that constitutes the intellectual background of works, and reviewed the procedures for approving qualifying programs at the local and international levels. Moreover the study made a comparison between the nature of qualifications and training programs locally and globally.
The study concluded that the archival profession lacks professional recognition of its importance, in addition to the absence of a specialized official body working to outline the nature of the qualifications and specialized training programs and also determines the competencies and professional knowledge required to obtain recognized professional certificates.
The study recommended the need to develop a national program in order to pay attention to specialized vocational education programs in the field of the archival profession. It also recommended developing joint programs between departments of library and information science to reconsider current qualification, and expand specialized vocational training programs for graduates and workers in the field. In addition, the study suggested the need to increase postgraduate programs to raise the efficiency of graduates, and improve the quality of management of the existing archival institutions.
