The citations of Abd al-Rahim al-Abbasi in his book “Institutes of Quotation on Evidence of Summary” with the poems of Abu Jaafar al-Andalusi

Abstract

  Poetical Quotations Attributed to Abu Jaafar Al- Andalusi in the Book of Ma'aahid al-Tansees of Al-'Abbasi

This paper attempts to identify the Andalusian poet whom Al-'Abbasi, in his book "Ma'ahid al-Tansees" quoted several times, and described him as Abu Ja'afar or Abu Ja'afar Al-Andalusi, but has never mentioned his name or his family name, despite the author in this book quoted around sixty Andalusian poets referring to their names or their family names. For this purpose we looked for any indication to the identity of the poetin these quotations we checked the poetical collections of some Andalusian poets carrying the nickname of Abu Ja'afar, and we looked for these quotations in different literary and rhetorical references. We tried also to find the reasons behind al-'Abbasi disregarding of the name of Abu Ja'afar.

As a result of this research we could define the name and identity of Abu Ja'afar as: Abu Ja'afar Ahmed IbnYousefIbn Malik al- Ru'aaynial- Gharnati al- Andalusi (d. 779 A.H), who is a famous commentator of the Badee'iyyah of Ibn Jabir.

Al-'Abbasi quoted Al-Ru'aayni (18) times in his book Ma'aahid al-Tansees.
