The Effect of Using social media on Family Relationships

The current study focused on the impact of the use of social networking sites on family relationships and to identify the extend of compatibility or direction of these sites with family values, customs and traditions. This study also focused on knowing the pros and cons of these sites and knowing the technological interaction and its effects on the family, It’s also focused on knowing the theoretical concepts of the concept of family, disintegration and family separation, and what these sites can bring about the terms of family separation and disintegration.
To achieve the objectives of the study and complete the field work, the researcher designed a questionnaire as a basic tool for collecting data and information for this study, In this study the comprehensive survey method was used with the study community, which consisted of all members of the teaching staff at faculty of education, Benghazi and faculty of information technology ( married) couples of both types, males and females, for the purpose of arriving at accurate results that enable us to understand and realize the study.
After analyzing and presenting the data the study reached a set of results, The most important of which are :
- The percentage of respondents who had accounts on these sites registered under their real names and under pseudonyms has increased, and (80.7 %) of them confirmed that their data registered in the account is correct.
- This study showed that (84.2 %) respondents had accounts on popular websites.
- (51.1 %) of the respondents confirmed that the average hours they spend on these sites is less than an hour per day, due to their preoccupation with their daily work.
- (92.0 %) of the respondents stressed the need for the family to have a large and important role in monitoring their children while they use these websites.
