Abstract

    The tongue is an organ located inside the human mouth, performing several functions, most notably speech. It is a flexible and highly movable organ, which enables it to contribute to the production of a wide range of linguistic sounds, up to eighteen letters, in collaboration with other parts of the mouth, such as the teeth and palate.

    Through this organ, communication between people takes place, leading to an important theory in linguistics known as the theory of "linguistic communication," attributed to the Russian scholar Roman Jakobson (1896 CE - 1982 CE). Jakobson is considered one of the foremost linguists of the first half of the last century, as he expanded the scope of research to include language and its users by involving the addressee in the speech event.
