Abstract

The Andalusian References in Al-wafi Bilwafayat of Salah al-Din Al-Safadi.
The book entitled “Al-Wafi Bil-Wafayat” of Salah al-Din al-Safadi, is one of the largest compilations of al-Safadi. It consists of thirty volumes of Arab biographies. The author paid a large attention to the Andalusian figures: leaders, princes, judges, writers, poets, scientists, authors, and all components of the Andalusian society.

Al-Safadi was not able to carry out such work without referring to the Andalusian works in literature, history, biographies and different fields of knowledge.
This paper tries to find out those Andalusian references which Al-Safadi referred to in his work. We divided these references into two sections: the first is those references which still available, and the second is those are considered lost or undiscovered.
The first part can enable the schollars to compare what al-Safadi quoted from those books to what those books read. The second part shows the importance of al-Wafi Bil-wafayat in this regard, since it still keeps some texts and biographies from lost books, which makes Al-Wafi an essential reference to those texts and biographies.
