Abstract

The researcher has conducted an analytical study examining team sport- injuries sustained by the students of the College of Physical Education and Sport Science during practical sessions. The study aims to explore the causes and types of sport- injuries and determine which types of team sports account for the highest sport- injury rates.

Owing to the nature of this research, a descriptive research method has been adopted. Besides, the study sample consists of

70 students who have received sports-injuries during the practical sessions. of team sport modules in the College of Physical Education and Sport Science.

A questionnaire has been distributed, submitted, and statistically analyzed and processed. Accordingly, the following research findings have been reached:

  • The causes of sport- injuries are as follows: inadequate pre-match warm up period, poor fitness levels, poor playground conditions, inadequate sports equipment, student mental and emotional health issues, rough play, and inadequate lecture timetabling.

  • The types of sport- injuries sustained by the research subjects involve the following: muscle tears, bruises, tendon ruptures, muscle spasms, disarticulation, dislocation, and bone fracture.
  • The team sports with the highest risk of injuries are as follows: football, handball, basketball, and volleyball

The following recommendations are based on the above- mentioned research findings:

  1. Allowing enough time, in order for the students to warm up properly in the beginning of the practical sessions.
  2. Enforcing team sport rules and prohibiting rough play.
  3. Making sure that the sports equipment, tools, and playgrounds (e.g. football fields and handball and volleyball courts) are in good condition and making them available to the students.
  4. Improving and increasing the students' fitness levels.
  5. Taking care of the students' mental and emotional health.
  6. Making sure the students wear proper team sport shoes.
