Author Responsibilities

Every author of a manuscript submitted to the Libyan Journal of Dentistry accepts the following responsibilities. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that every co-author understands and agrees to them prior to submission.

3.1  Authorship

Each author must meet all four ICMJE authorship criteria: substantial contribution to the work; drafting or critical revision; final approval of the version to be published; and agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work.

3.2  Originality and Integrity

  • Submit only original work that has not been published elsewhere and that is not currently under consideration by another journal.
  • Ensure that all data, figures, and results are accurate, authentic, and have not been fabricated, falsified, or inappropriately manipulated.
  • Disclose any prior dissemination of the work, including preprints, theses, and conference abstracts.
  • Properly cite the work of others and avoid plagiarism, self-plagiarism, and citation manipulation.

3.3  Methodological Transparency

  • Describe materials, methods, and analyses in sufficient detail to permit replication.
  • Identify the reporting guideline followed (CONSORT, STROBE, PRISMA, CARE, STARD, ARRIVE, etc.) and complete the corresponding checklist.
  • Disclose all sources of funding and the role of the funder, if any.
  • Disclose all financial and non-financial conflicts of interest.

3.4  Ethical Conduct

  • Obtain appropriate ethics committee approval for studies involving human or animal subjects, and report the approval reference number on the title page.
  • Obtain written informed consent from human participants and from patients whose identifiable information appears in the manuscript.
  • Register clinical trials prospectively in a recognized public registry and report the registration number in the abstract.
  • Register systematic-review protocols with PROSPERO or an equivalent registry.

3.5  Data and Material Sharing

  • Provide a Data Availability Statement in every original-research manuscript, using one of the journal's six standardized forms.
  • Where data are deposited in a public repository, ensure the deposit is citable (with a DOI) and accessible by the date of publication.
  • Make data, code, and materials available to other researchers on reasonable request.

3.6  Engagement with the Editorial Process

  • Respond promptly to editorial correspondence.
  • Address every comment from reviewers in a point-by-point response when submitting a revised manuscript.
  • Submit revised manuscripts within the agreed timeline (30 days for minor revisions, 60 days for major revisions).
  • Maintain confidentiality of the peer-review process and of unpublished reviewer comments.

3.7  Post-publication Accountability

  • Promptly notify the editorial office of any error, omission, or potential breach of policy identified after publication.
  • Cooperate in good faith with any post-publication investigation or correction process.
  • Preserve the primary data underlying the published work for at least ten years from the date of publication.
