Privacy Policy

The Libyan Journal of Dentistry respects the privacy of every author, reviewer, editor, reader, and visitor to its website. This policy explains what personal data the journal collects, how it is used, how it is stored and protected, and the rights of the individuals to whom the data relate.

2.1  Personal Data the Journal Collects

LJD collects only the personal data needed to operate the editorial and publication process:

  • From authors: name, academic title, institutional affiliation, postal address, email address, telephone number, ORCID iD, areas of expertise, manuscript content, and any data voluntarily provided in submitted manuscripts.
  • From reviewers: name, academic title, institutional affiliation, email address, ORCID iD, areas of expertise, conflict-of-interest declarations, and review reports.
  • From editors and editorial-board members: name, academic title, institutional affiliation, email address, ORCID iD, biographical information for publication on the website, and conflict-of-interest declarations.
  • From website visitors: anonymous usage data (browser type, referring page, pages viewed) collected for site analytics; no individually identifying information is required to read the published articles.

2.2  How Personal Data are Used

Personal data are used solely for editorial and publication purposes, including: managing the submission, peer-review, and publication workflow; communicating with authors, reviewers, and editors; publishing articles together with the authors' names, affiliations, and ORCID iDs; indexing articles with Crossref, DOAJ, Google Scholar, and other discovery services; auditing editorial decisions; and producing aggregate, non-identifying statistics.

2.3  What LJD Does Not Do with Personal Data

LJD does not: sell, rent, or trade personal data to third parties; use personal data for advertising or commercial promotion; send unsolicited marketing communications; share reviewers' identities with authors, or authors' identities with reviewers; or disclose unpublished manuscript content to any party not directly involved in the review process.

2.4  Storage and Security

Personal data are stored on systems administered on the journal's online platform. The journal applies reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.

2.5  Retention

  • Submitted but unpublished manuscripts: retained for five years after the final editorial decision, then either anonymized or securely deleted.
  • Published manuscripts and associated metadata: retained permanently as part of the scholarly record.
  • Reviewer records: retained for the duration of a reviewer's active engagement with the journal and for a further five years thereafter.
  • Editorial-board records: retained for the duration of board membership and for a further ten years for governance and audit purposes.

2.6  Disclosure to Third Parties

LJD discloses personal data to third parties only: to Crossref and other indexing services; to the University of Benghazi's information-technology providers; to other journals, institutions, or regulators where required by law or by a duty to investigate alleged misconduct; and with the explicit prior consent of the data subject.

2.7  Rights of Data Subjects

Authors, reviewers, editors, and other identifiable individuals have the right to: request access to the personal data the journal holds about them; request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data; request deletion of personal data where retention is no longer necessary; withdraw consent for non-essential uses of their data; and lodge a complaint with the editorial office or, where applicable, with the relevant national data-protection authority. Requests should be sent to [email protected] and will be responded to within 30 days.

2.8  Cookies and Analytics

The journal website uses only essential cookies required for navigation and session management, plus aggregate anonymized analytics to understand how the site is used. The journal does not use third-party advertising cookies or behavioural tracking.

2.9  Changes to this Policy

This Privacy Policy is reviewed at least every two years. Material changes are announced on the journal website and, where appropriate, communicated directly to active authors and reviewers.

The names and email addresses entered on this journal website are used solely for the stated activities of this journal and are not shared with any other party or used for any other purpose.
