Author Guidelines
The Libyan Journal of Dentistry (LJD) welcomes original research, reviews, case reports, and short communications in all branches of dentistry, oral and maxillofacial sciences, and related medical fields. These guidelines describe the requirements that every manuscript must satisfy before submission. Authors are strongly advised to read this page in full and to use the journal's downloadable templates and checklists.
Scope of acceptable submissions
- Original research articles.
- Review articles (narrative and systematic reviews).
- Case reports and case series of educational value.
- Short communications and technical notes.
- Letters to the Editor and commentaries on previously published items.
Pre-submission requirements
- Ensure the work is original, has not been published elsewhere, and is not under consideration by any other journal.
- Confirm that all listed authors meet authorship criteria and that all contributors are correctly acknowledged.
- Obtain Institutional Review Board (IRB) or equivalent ethics approval for any study involving human participants, identifiable patient data, or animal subjects.
- Obtain written informed consent from any identifiable patient and complete the Patient Consent Form.
- Run an originality (similarity) check; the manuscript must score ≤ 20 % on iThenticate (excluding references and properly cited quotations).
- Disclose any use of artificial intelligence tools in writing, analysis, or image generation.
- Declare all sources of funding and any potential conflict of interest.
Manuscript structure (IMRAD)
Original research manuscripts must follow the IMRAD structure: Title page (separate file) → Abstract & Keywords → Introduction → Materials and Methods → Results → Discussion → Conclusion → Acknowledgements → References → Tables → Figures. Review articles and case reports may adopt a structure appropriate to their content but must include an abstract, clear sub-headings, and a reference list.
Language and writing style
- All manuscripts must be submitted in clear, grammatically correct English.
- Non-native English speakers are strongly encouraged to seek professional language editing before submission.
- Use the third person and active voice where possible. Avoid jargon and ensure abbreviations are defined at first mention.
Where to find templates and forms
All required templates and forms are listed in §V-3 of this document and are available for download on the journal's website. If the file location is unclear, authors may request copies by emailing library [email protected].
Author Name Change Policy (silent correction)
Authors who change their name after publication for personal reasons (including gender identity, marriage, or religious conversion) may request a silent update to the published record. The journal will update the article metadata, HTML, and PDF without issuing a public correction notice. Such requests should be sent by email from the author's institutional address to library .dent @uob.edu.ly and will be handled confidentially.
