Intellectual Property Policy

The Libyan Journal of Dentistry recognizes and protects the intellectual property rights of authors, third parties, and the journal itself.

8.1  Intellectual Property of the Authors

• Authors retain the full intellectual property rights in their submitted and published work, including copyright and patent rights.
• Where a study has led, or may lead, to a patent application, the authors should consider the timing of the patent application in relation to publication. The journal does not delay publication to accommodate patent filings.
• Authors who are employees of an institution should be aware that the institution may hold rights in some of their intellectual property.

8.2  Intellectual Property of Third Parties

Where a manuscript reproduces or substantially adapts material owned by a third party, the corresponding author must obtain written permission from the rights-holder before submission. This applies to: figures, tables, and illustrations; substantial quotations from copyrighted texts; standardized clinical or research instruments; photographs of identifiable persons; and proprietary software or algorithms.

8.3  Trade Marks and Product Names

Authors must use the correct generic or scientific names of materials and equipment. Where a proprietary or trade name is necessary for clarity, the trade name is given followed in parentheses by the manufacturer's name, city, and country. The use of trade names does not imply endorsement by the journal.

8.4  Patient Identifiers and Confidential Information

• Manuscripts must not contain information that could allow the identification of an individual patient without that patient's explicit written consent.
• Clinical photographs in which features that could identify the patient are visible must be accompanied by written consent for publication.

8.5  Journal Intellectual Property

The Libyan Journal of Dentistry's logo, masthead, journal title, layout, and editorial branding are the property of the journal and may not be reproduced, modified, or used for any purpose without the prior written permission of the editorial office.

8.6  Open-access Licence and Reuse

Articles published by LJD are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International Licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). Reuses outside the scope of the licence — including commercial reuse, adaptation, and derivative works — require the prior written permission of the corresponding author.

8.7  Disputes about Intellectual Property

Concerns about possible infringement of intellectual property in a submitted or published article should be sent in writing to [email protected]. The journal will investigate every credible concern in accordance with the COPE flowcharts.
